Abused and beautiful

Furniture Makeovers with Paint

These pieces of antique furniture certainly had seen better days. The finish was half worn off, crazed and just awful. The client is really into the shabby chic, creamy and antiqued look right now, so she asked me to do some furniture makeovers with paint on these sideboards a couple of months ago, and just this past week, to make over some smaller accessories to match.

Also included in the mix are a pair of new shelves and brackets that I had fun abusing, painting and abusing some more to make them look like they had been around for a hundred years.
When I arrived to start the abuse session, she showed me a wonderful table she’d kept hidden under a tablecloth for years because the top was in such sad shape. The base was in really nice condition, but the veneer on the top was lifting in a few places, and the finish was in pretty sad shape. It just cried out to be turned into a stone top to fit in with the granite counters in her kitchen, so that’s just what I did. Below is the top with it’s paint treatment- it needs a few coats of water based poly to give it the final sheen of stone.

I wish I’d remembered to take before pictures on this one, the transformation is amazing!
