Front Porch Ideas~ Neutrals

It was kind of a short month for me last month- a week’s vacation plus a week off as Al had some major surgery, but nevertheless, I did get in some smaller projects. I was able to work a few hours a day and still give him the care he needed and get him to his appointments. Having a flexible schedule is a great thing to have when someone needs you.

My favorite project this past month was a fresh look for a screened in front porch.

The floor was already gorgeous in this narrow space- a quartz tile that had such beautiful variations in color. It was the walls that really needed something special, but subtle. We pulled our colors from the tile and decided to paint the tongue and groove siding a medium mushroom color to use the vanilla beige trim as an accent. On the walls by the front door and on the end wall, we chose an all over scroll pattern stencil in a deeper shade.

The front doors have scrolls too, so the new design fits with the old.

The stenciling was done with two colors, with a sponge to give texture and pattern similar to the floor.

The finished room is very neutral and monochromatic, but in this space the homeowners can bring in color in the seasonal accessories, seat cushions and artwork to make it a lovely space to enjoy the view of their beautiful garden.
