Through Another Door~ old door painting

Earlier this summer, I traveled to Grand Rapids to create an old door painting on an entry door in a condo high rise there. (read the post HERE)  Unfortunately, the owner was forced to have the door painted over within weeks of completion. I always felt bad for her, she never complained about this waste of her money- after all, she had paid me well for the week’s work I performed, only to have it be destroyed. And I felt bad that a work of my heart was gone forever.

Hacienda Door - painted on a metel door to look like weathered and distressed old wood with rusted iron hardware and a wrought iron grill/window to the outside showing the western mountains and a river. Mural by Ellen Leigh.

Over the summer an idea took shape, and I worked on it in snatches of time over about a month to complete something she could have to remember the original door, remember the experience of having something painted just for HER. Last week-end, Al and I traveled back to Grand Rapids for a visit and I gave her the painting below, to hang wherever her heart desires. I think she was pleased.
