July Happenings:

Room redo:  Our daughter has been at college for 3 years now, and with her busy  schedule seldom gets to visit home for more than a day or two at a time.  I finally decided to clean up and redecorate her room so it could be used by guests when needed.  I didn't really want to spend much money on it, and I had a lot of things that could be used in there with the right combination of colors, fabrics and paints.

I really fell in love with the Ocean Blue and Brown color scheme that has become popular lately, so I was happy to be able to incorporate some of those tones into the room.  I was amazed at all the things I pulled out of my stash of leftover this and that from other projects that I was able to use in the room to create a wonderful look!

These pillows were hand stencilled to go in the room, and coordinate with the new border I stenciled on the wall. It's a metallic shantung silk look with a lovely scroll pattern- a classic and elegant look for this very peaceful room.  More pictures and information is on my blog "Inspiration"

Garden Walk:  Tha MGAWC had a small garden walk this summer, and I was asked to have my garden be one of the four on the tour.  The flowers all cooperated and were just stunning for the evening, the weather, which had been extremely warm for days before, finally broke with a nice thunderstorm, and was beautifully cool that evening.  Want to see more garden pictures?  Check out "In the Garden" for pictures and garden articles.

Visiting friends:  An artist friend of mine has beeen touring the country this summer, driving from her home in Minnesota across the country to Philly, for some classes, and visiting relatives and friends.  She detoured to visit me on the way out east and we were able to meet for the first time!  We had such a great time that she stopped on the way back and picked up a painting she commissioned.

Although the internet can be a scary place sometimes, and I am always very careful,  I have met the nicest people in some of the groups I belong to, and haven't had a bad experience yet.  Here is my friend Dian- don't we look like we've been friends forever?

Upcoming in August:

The Choir from Cornwall- The first week-end in August, the Holman Climax Male Voice Choir will be visiting our church all the way from Cornwall, UK.  Individual members will be staying with members of the church, and two will be staying with us.  They visited once before in 2001, we hosted then too, and had a wonderful experience all the way around, so we've been looking forward to seeing our friends again for a very long time!   Check back later in the month for an account of the visit! and a few pictures

BBQ- It's time again for our annual BBQ at the Lake- Ribs, Chicken, lots of pot luck dishes, fun and friends!  This annual gathering is always a blast with our soocial group from church.

Camp DoWhatChaWanna- What fun! My parents plan a short summer camp out at the Lake for their grandchildren who are able to attend, every year a different 'theme'.  Last year it was 'Cowboys and Indians'- this year it is 'Pirates'. It's bound to be a blast, it always is!
